Subway,
sandwich restaurant chain from the US, plans to increase
its presence in Malaysia by having 12 franchised outlets
by the end of this year.
It aims to open eight outlets this year, in addition to
the four that are located in the Klang Valley. The latest
outlet was opened in Leboh Ampang, while the next one
is scheduled to open in Penang by end of this month.
The start-up cost is from RM250,000, including the franchise
fee of $10,000 (US). The size of an outlet could vary
between 500 sq. ft. and 1,000 sq ft.
Subway faces competition not only from other sandwich
chains such as O'Briens Sandwich Bars and Delifrance,
but also fast-food chains such as McDonald's, Burger King
and KFC.
Currently, there are about 25,000 Subway franchises in
83 countries and territories. Last year, Subway posted
worldwide sales of $9.5 billion
